Kev's Research at SBU

I have been often asked about what's Kev up to since graduation. Well, go ahead, click on the link to find out

For those on the run, here is a snapshot.

My research is based on the spinal biomechanics and lower back pain (LBP). A cause for LBP is the activation of mechano-nociceptors situated in the lumbar facet joint capsules. These mechanoreceptors and no-ciceptors appear to encode the local stress rather than the local strain during loading. It is infeasible to directly obtain capsule stress in-vivo conditions. However, the finite element method (FEM) provides an accurate approximation of these capsule stresses and strains. This study aims to create a geometrically accurate FEM model of the lumbar FJ, incorporate it into an existing lumbar spine model, and subject it to normal physiological loading conditions. Cadaver spine regions T12-S1 images were obtained and descritized via CT imaging software and then exported into ABAQUS, a finite element solver. To mimic actual invivo conditions, my FE model will include non-linear geometry behavior, accurate material properties and dynamic loading conditions. This study is a joint effort with the University of Toledo and Palmer College.

One Fathom Bank 27 & 28 Dec 2010

Went fishing to OFB on 27 and 28 December 2010 with the Gamuda-Litrak Angling Diehards (GLAD) gang and friends.

Watch out for more posts on this fishing trip at http://www.gladfishingspot.blogspot.com/
